The national figure has risen slightly.

The number of asylum seekers being accommodated in the midlands has seen a slight reduction.

1,751 International Protection Applicants were being put up in the region at the end of April, down eight on the week prior.

Westmeath is hosting the largest number of those, with 798, followed by 588 in Laois and 365 in Offaly.

Nationally, there were just under 30,000 asylum seekers in Ireland, up 3,000 on the figure at the end of the year.

Nearly two thirds of those are in emergency accommodation.
