The very first Texaco Children’s Art Competition was held in 1955.
Three midlands students have won top prizes in this years Children's Art Competition.
In the 12-13 year age category, 13 year old Beth Phelan , from Paint Pots Art Group, Ballyfin, won second prize for her work entitled ‘The Farmhouse’ in the 70th Texaco Children’s Art Competition.
In addition, Anna McCarthy, 9 years old, from Emo National School, Portlaoise, won a Special Merit Award for her artwork entitled ‘Teddy Bear’.
In the 7–8 year age category, 8 year old Nicholas Glynn, from All Saints' National School, Mullingar, won second prize for his work entitled ‘Lost Little Lambs.
The Texaco Children’s Art Competition is popularly regarded as the longest-running sponsorship in the history of arts sponsoring in Ireland, with an history that dates back to the very first Competition held in 1955.
