Midlands TD Calls For Five Year Fund For An Post

The Irish Postmaster's Union wants €15m a year to effectively run the service.

A five year fund for post offices in rural areas is needed to guarantee their future.

That's the view of Longford Westmeath TD Micheal Carrigy who feels the National Development Plan needs to put aside money for them to survive.

There's currently no plans to close offices according to An Post, but the Irish Postmasters' Union estimate a cost of €15m is needed annually to keep more branches open.
