There are mixed emotions from students in the midlands following the announcement of the Junior Cert results day.

The State Examinations Commission has confirmed the results will be released on November 23rd, two months later than usual.

It blamed a "significant" shortage of examiners for this year's delay.

Principal of Portlaoise College, Noel Daly says it's had little impact on those who continued into Transition Year, but that 5th Year students who've already chosen their Senor Cycle subjects feel very let down.

He has this advice for the students and parents concerned by the delay:

The Teachers' Union of Ireland wants preparations put in place now to ensure next year's Junior Cycle results are issued timely.
