Offaly Councillor Calls For 'Loose Tree Survey'

It comes following the recent damage by storms.

A "stitch in time saves nine" when it comes to handling trees after extreme weather events.

That's the view of Independent Offaly Councillor John Leahy who wants local authorities in the midlands to carry out a loose tree survey.

The survey would focus on uprooted trees after the recent storms of Darragh and Eowyn in places where they're a liability to power lines, human life and private property.

These trees would then be cut down or topped.

Councillor Leahy wants Offaly County Council to write to the Minister for Local Government for additional funding in the roads programme for the survey.

He says it also would help landowners:
