Offaly TD Carol Nolan is a long standing critic of the government's approach to immigration, but accepts there are valid instances when someone seeking asylum arrives in Ireland without the relevant paperwork.

The Independent rep has previously cited the plight of Christians fleeing persecution in Nigeria.

She says more stringent immigration interviews are required in lieu of applicants having the right papers:
