Over 3,400 Ukrainian Refugees In Short-Term Midlands Accommodation

Around the country, there are over 58,000 in short-term state accommodation.

Counties along the west coast are hosting a higher number of Ukrainian refugees than other areas.

The Department of Integration says over 58,500 were being provided with short-term state accommodation as of last week.

There are over 3,300 Ukrainian refugees being hosted in the midlands - 1,700 of those are in Westmeath, with nearly 1,200 in Offaly and just under 500 in Laois.

Kerry is currently hosting the highest number of Ukrainians  in this state accommodation nationwide at over 7-thousand, that is 12.4 percent of the total number accommodated across all counties.

This is more than Dublin which is sitting at just under the 7,000 mark.

Figures also show Cork, Galway, Clare, Mayo, and Donegal have a higher percentage portion of the overall number compared to the rest of the country according to the Irish Independent.

The majority of Ukrainian refugees being housed in this short term accommodation are under the age of 18 - at over 42,000.

Laois has one of the lowest proportion of Ukrainian refugees staying in short-term accommodation.

The midlands county has the second lowest figure in the country, ahead of only Longford.

Independent TD, Michael Healy Rae, says the pressure on resources in rural areas is a concern:
