19 archaeological sites in the region have been selected for funding.
Over half a million euro is being allocated to conserve and maintain archaeological sites in the midlands.
19 projects in the region have been selected by the government's Community Monument Fund, which was set up last year under the July Stimulus Package.
The midlands beneficiaries include Blundell Castle in Edenderry, which is receiving €65,000 ; €59,500 is going to the Old St. Peter's Church and Graveyard in Portlaoise; and Fore Gaol will get €70,000 in funding.
The money will go towards preserving the sites for the future, while also making them more accessible to the public.
