A proposed salary of €292,000 for the next secretary general of the Department of Health will be examined by the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee.
Its chairperson, Laois/Offaly Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley, says the figure will have people questioning what planet politicians are on, for approving it.
The salary is €81,000 higher than the current ceiling for the role of secretary general in other government departments.
