Plans for the provision of 10 new rooms at a midlands hotel have been appealed.
Laois County Council granted planning permission for the development in the East End Hotel in Portarlington last month.
The proposal would also see 12 existing trees removed from the site.
The development has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála by the Orchard Drive Residents Association.
In a submission to the local authority, it says the site is not a "functioning hotel," and has been used as a Direct Provision refugee centre for the past four years.
