David Kelly says victims of paramilitary violence want the crimes of the past acknowledged.

Victims of the crimes of paramilitary violence in Northern Ireland will never be able to move on, until those involved acknowledge crimes were committed in the first place.

David Kelly is the son of murdered Westmeath soldier Patrick Kelly.

The Moate man was killed in a shootout following the kidnapping of Supermarket boss, Don Tidey in 1983.

Brendan 'Bik' McFarlane was the only person ever charged over that kidnapping, however his 2008 Special Criminal Court trial collapsed after garda evidence was ruled inadmissible.

Sinn Fein President Mary Lou McDonald has recently described Mr. McFarlane as a "great patriot" and "a giant of Irish republicanism" after his death last month.
