Rise In Extortion, Fraud And Hate Crime

The National Crime Victims Helpline says harassment and assault were two of the most common issues people faced.

The national Crime Victims Helpline has reported a significant increase in contacts about extortion, fraud and LGBTQ and racist hate crime. 

The charity’s annual report for last year recorded over 6,500 contacts, with assault and harassment two of the main issues people sought support for. 

Over 3,000 referrals were made by the helpline to a variety of organisations, including the Garda Victim Service.
