There was a 13% increase in the use of video links between Irish prisons and courtrooms in 2019.
Offaly Circuit Court, Portlaoise District Court, the Midlands prison and Portlaoise prison all provided a platform for the accused to give evidence without attending their hearing.
In total 3,798 video conferences were held throughout Ireland last year according to the courts service annual report.
