Tánaiste Insists No By Elections Planned Before General Election

Minister Martin also wants to see the current Government remain in place until February.

The Tánaiste says there won't be any by-elections ahead of the next General Election.

Five Dáil seats are currently vacant, including one in the Laois-Offaly constituency following Barry Cowen's election as an MEP.

It's been widely speculated the next General Election would be in November, but Mr Cowen's part leader believes the Government should run until February.

In that instance, Michael Martin says there wouldn't be any by-elections to fill the vacant Dáil seats:
