The project is worth over €30m in capital investment.
Taoiseach Simon Harris has officially opened a 50-Bed Ward Block at Portiuncula University Hospital today.
The project is a €35m capital investment for the hospital site and will deliver in-patient single room accommodation in line with current modern-day standards.
The design of the wards will improve patient experience and comfort for those requiring end of life care.
Taoiseach Simon Harris says: 'This is a special project and he met with local representatives and staff at the hospital and heard directly about the need for this project.'
