'People Are Existing Not Living'

Those are the words of a TD following the rent increases across the country.

A TD is calling for more social and affordable housing.

It's in the wake of yesterday's Daft report showing an almost 11% increase in rent prices across the country, compared to 8% in Dublin.

Rent increased by nearly 16% in the midlands, which amounts to just over €225 in the second quarter of this year.

Rents went up by at least a fifth in counties like Mayo, Galway and Roscommon.
