A local councillor says it's unacceptable and a root and branch review is needed.
It's not acceptable that three ambulances were left unstaffed in Athlone last Sunday.
That's according to Fine Gael's John Dolan, who wants a root and branch review to be carried out into the National Ambulance Service.
It comes as concerns were raised in Laois last week, when a teenager was left waiting two hours for an emergency response at a local GAA club.
Councillor Dolan says he's very aware of the importance of acting quickly, after needing the service himself following a heart attack in 2017:
