Triple Lock Gives Moscow Too Much Power - Cathal Berry

Russia can veto decisions on the military activity of UN member states.

A government proposal to remove UN approval from the Triple Lock is dividing opinion. 

The system means Ireland can't deploy more than 12 peacekeepers unless the government, the Dáil and the UN Security Council give approval.

Russia is one of five members sitting on the council, meaning it can veto decisions on the military activity of UN member states.
