Horan's Pork Shop in Athlone will close for the final time at the end of the year.

An Athlone Butcher shop is set to close it doors after 75 years in business.

Horan's Pork Shop are announcing their intention to close down at the end of the year.

The Horan family say changes in the trade and in the town means the business is no longer viable.

Mark and Brian Earley are paying tribute to their grandfather, Bill Horan who opened the store in 1949, as well as their uncle Michael Horan.

They're also expressing their gratitude for "all the memories and connections" they made along the way.

Horan's Pork Shop will continue to trade until after the Christmas period.
