Westmeath Councillor Aiming To Change Anomaly In Solar Panel Planning Laws

She says it will open doors in an area where schools in particular are struggling.

A Westmeath councillor is aiming to change an anomaly in Ireland's planning legislation. 

Currently, schools and community buildings have to apply for planning permission to install solar panels, a measure which isn't required for residential and commercial properties. 

The Green Party's Hazel Smyth says the policy is a major deterrent to green initiatives in these settings.

She says amending it will open doors in an area where schools in particular are struggling:
