He is calling for more facilities to be made available to the valuable tourism route.
A Westmeath County Councillor believes the Mullingar to Castletown greenway has been under promoted for some time by the local authority.
Fianna Fail's Ken Glynn says quick action is needed as some people in the town do not even know where the access point is to the Greenway.
Mr Glynn says figures show that other greenways in other parts of the country have far superior tourism numbers compared to the Old Rail Trail.
He says this facility is a gem for the area but it lacks the basic services such as toilets and bins:
