Westmeath Councillors Move To Block Lissywollen Accomodation Centre

Councillors in Westmeath are moving to obstruct the construction of a major asylum seeker accommodation centre.

Athlone representatives have launched a formal objection, using the Local Government Reform Act, to the planned commencement of works on an OPW site in Lissywollen.

It's expected the project will eventually have a maximum capacity of 1,000 male International Protection Applicants.
