Power Generated For First Time at Offaly Wind Farm

Commercial operation is expected to start in early 2025.

Power has been generated for the first time at a new wind farm in Offaly which will have the potential to power 67,000 homes a year.

The Yellow River Wind Farm in Rhode is operated by SSE Renewables and its 29 wind turbines connect to the nearby Knockdrin substation and Derryiron Transmission Station.

The farm is also now connected to Eirgrid's national grid of power.

Further testing of turbines will take place in the next few months - with commerical operation expected to start in early 2025.
