It's the "worst possible time" to introduce a latte levy, according to a midlands café owner.

The proposed new levy would see an additional 20 cent charge on plastic take-away coffee cups, and is part of government efforts to encourage customers to avail of reusable alternatives.

The idea has been criticised by the hospitality sector for a number of years, while environmentalists argue it should already be in place.
