Energy Security And AI Top The Davos Agenda This Week

Meanwhile the Employment Minister has been trumpeting Local Enterprise Offices.

Business leaders, politicians and academics are among those meeting in Davos in Switzerland this week for the World Economic Forum.

They'll look at issues like energy security, climate change and AI. 

Global figures like Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken are in attendance.

Local Enterprise Offices supported 6640 new jobs nationwide last year.

82% of the roles created were outside Dublin.

Last year was the tenth year in a row of job creation at LEO supported companies.

Employment Minister Neale Richmond says experts are on hand to help out:

The rate of inflation rose in December to 4.6%.
 
That's up from a rate of 3.9% in the 12 months to November.
 
The area with the largest price rises in the year to December was in Recreation and Culture, up over 10%.
 
Restaurants and hotel prices were up 6.6%.

The Junior Enterprise Minister says the government will consider extending a deadline for tax debt if it's proving difficult for small businesses.

Around 60,000 businesses owe Revenue a total of €1.9 billion.

However, the deadline for debts to be paid or for a payment plan to be agreed with Revenue is May of this year.

It's led to concerns that it could force businesses to close, but Minister Neale Richmond says he wants to avoid that
