Dermot McCabe's side looked set for their first point of the campaign until the dying moments.
There was hooter-heartbreak for Westmeath in the National Football League yesterday.
The Lake County were set for their first point of their Division Two campaign after battling to injurytime against Meath at level scores.
The result dissapeared before Westmeath eyes when Conor Duke fielded a pass, turned and shot to raise the winning green flag, all as, or before the hooter sounded for full time.
The final score was 3-14 to 1-17.
There's been much debate about when full time was called.
Westmeath manager Dermot McCabe says he has sympathy with the referee:
Elsewhere, Offaly got back to winning ways in Division Three against Leitrim 1-13 to 1-9, while Laois overcame Antrim by 22 points to 1-17 on Saturday.
In the Hurling league, Offaly beat Westmeath in Division 1B 1-22 to 0-19 to remain top of the standings.
That loss leaves Westmeath bottom and destined for the drop after losing all four of their games so far this season.
