It was ultimately disappointment for Team Europe.
Shane Lowry's love of team sport was to the fore throughout the weekend at the Ryder Cup.
Grinning from ear to ear during the opening announcements on both Friday and Saturday afternoon, you could see that the 2019 Open winner's enthusiasm for the event was infectious to his team-mates.
The Clara man played well across the weekend, playing his holes in -6, which is middle of the road when compared with his team-mates and rivals.
John Rahm scored best on -15 and Rory McIlroy was least productive with a +2 score.
Speaking to Denis Kirwan afterwards for Midlands103 Sport, Lowry said:
"I feel like I'm made for this stuff, I really do.
I can't describe the feelings I've had this week. I am who I am. I'd love if golf was a team game, I'd love to be part of a team every week.
It's very individually based and that's the life I have but oh god, I would love to have this experience every week.'
Without making excuses, I feel like they got a lot of breaks the first day. That killed us. Six-two down after the first day and you try your best to get it back but it is a tall order against these lads.
On his future European Ryder Cup prospects:
I will be in Rome and we will win it back.
My whole goal for the next two years is to get to Rome and my whole goal is going to win that trophy.
Obviously I want to win tournaments and I want to win majors and do this, that and the other but I really want to win one of these.
I want to be a part of a winning team and I really think we have a great chance in a couple of years time.
