He makes the jump as Cage Warriors Welterweight champion.
Cage Warriors Welterweight Champions Ian Garry has officially signed with the UFC becoming the 105th fighter to make the jump.
The Dublin native claimed the then vacant Cage Warriors Welterweight title at Cage Warriors 125 in June beating Jack Grant by unanimous decision in the final of their welterweight tournament.
The undefeated Irish prospect becomes the third active Irish UFC roster member joining Conor McGregor and Dean Barry in the promotion.
Making the announcement official on his twitter account Garry simply posted “It was always inevitable” along with a montage video.
Rumours had circulated earlier on Friday that he had been signed with media members spotting his addition to the UFC’s ranking pool although no announcement had been made.
It was no secret that Garry had the UFC in his sights with his post fight interview at Cage Warriors 125 leaving little to the imagination.
“I’m here to prove I’m the best. I’m not here for money. I’m not here for fame. I’m here to be the best and I’m going to the f**king UFC
Garry will enter the UFC with a 7-0 record, having fought his entire professional career with Cage Warriors, leaving behind a once again vacant welterweight belt.
This has become a common occurrence with the welterweight title having being vacated 10 times over the course of its history, dating back to 2003.
It has become especially common lately with the last three champions before Ian Garry vacating before signing for either the UFC or Bellator.
With Garry’s exit form the company this now adds to the growing number of vacancies at the top of the Cage Warriors ranking with their Heavyweight, Light Heavyweight, Women’s Bantamweight and Women’s Flyweight titles all vacant at present.
There is still no word on when or where Ian Garry will make his debut for the UFC but with the buzz surrounding him there is little doubt that he will be one of the most talked about prospects on the UFC roster.
