His experienced backroom team is also being highlighted as a big plus.
Laois GAA say they're delighted with the official ratification of Billy Sheehan as manager of the senior footballers.
The former Emo club player takes over from Mike Quirke and brings with him a host of knowledgeable Laois men into his backroom team.
Former captain Chris Conway, Beano McDonald and Gerry McGill are on-board as part of the coaching ticket in what seems a very clued in set of appointments with a view of bringing through a number of youngsters.
The O'Moore county were operating with one of the older panels in the inter-county scene last year and having reached a couple of Leinster U-20 deciders with Dublin in recent years it'll be hoped that a handful of those two groups will make the breakthrough in the coming seasons.
Speaking in the aftermath of the official ratification, chairman Peter O'Neill said:
Billy has been a long servant to Laois.
I think he played 10-15 years in a Laois jersey and with his selectors in Chris, Beano and Gerry McGill, who has played for two different clubs and managed a good few teams around, it's a very good package and I think Billy has the enthusiasm and skill to drive the lads forward and bring the team back again.
I think all the lads would know every player in Laois so I don't think there'll be any stone unturned from senior right down to the junior ranks and I know they've already been studying video and looking at games.
They all know the game in the county.
Billy would have been attending games, Chris and Beano are always heading to games and they're all still involved in some capacity.
They know the situation within Laois, what we have and the coming from U-20s minors coming up and seniors that we have at the present time.
