The Clara man will be hoping to bring his PGA Championship form to Pinehurst.

The third major of the year, the US Open, begins at Pinehurst in North Carolina today.

2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry tees off just after a quarter to 7 this evening.

The Offaly golfer registered an impressive 6th place finish at the PGA Championship after equaling the course record on his third round.

Tom McKibbin is making his major debut

He tees off his opening round at 11.45am Irish time, with Seamus Power out just before Noon.

McIlroy hits the fairways just before 6.15pm.

He'll tee off alongside world number one Scottie Scheffler and PGA Champion Xander Schauffele.

The Northern Irishman's hoping a strong performance at Pinehurst will land him an elusive fifth major title.

He says it'll be no disadvantage being involved in such a strong group:

World number one Scottie Scheffler is bidding for his sixth win of 2024.
