McCabe Takes Westmeath Reigns After Tuesday Night Ratification

The former Cavan star has enjoyed inter-county and club success in Ulster.

Dermot McCabe was last night confirmed as Westmeath’s new senior football manager, replacing Dessie Dolan.

A former All Star with Cavan, McCabe was a selector when his native county won the Ulster title in 2020.

He was also part of the management team that led Gowna to back-to-back club titles in Cavan.

As a player, he won six Senior Club Championships and secured both the Ulster Under-21 and Senior titles with Cavan.

Westmeath GAA's also confirming Mark McHugh is joining the inter-county set-up as a coach.

The ex-Donegal star has been coaching in Galway this year.

He's helped Moycullen to a county final in the Connacht county - they face Corofin on Sunday week.

McHugh has also coached under Davy Burke at Roscommon in 2023.

Dessie Dolan says McCabe will be walking into a quality set up:
