St Loman's made a positive start to their quest to win back the Flanagan Cup.
The Senior and Intermediate Football Championship got underway in Westmeath last weekend.
A total of 12 games was played across both grades on Saturday and Sunday, each consisting of two groups of six .
In the Senior Championship opener, St Loman's began their quest to claim back the Flanagan Cup with victory over The Downs in a repeat of last year's decider.
The Mullingar side were six point winners in a thrilling affair, 4-13 to 2-13 at Cusack Park. Elsewhere in section A, Tyrellspass were three point winners over Killucan, while league champions Corallstown/Kinnegad were 4-06 to 0-10 winners over Caulry.
In section B, Shandonagh edged out Garrycastle with a 0-15 to 1-11 win, while Tang secured their first championship win of the season with a 2-09 to 1-11 victory over Mullingar Shamrocks in Moate.
Moate All Whites were five point winners over Athlone on a scoreline of 1-09 to 0-07.
In the Intermediate Championship, Tubberclair were convincing 11 point winners over Castledaly, Ballymore were 1-12 to 0-10 victors over Milltown and Rosemount beat St Mary's Rochfortbridge by two points in section A, while Maryland, Ballynacargy and St Malcahy's also claimed wins in section B.
